10:00 a.m. April 30th 2011. The Talisman Big Game comes to TTN The classic RPG on a board experience. The objective of the game is simple: Kill all your opponents, be the last man standing. The easiest way to do that, is to work your way from the Outer Region (where you start) through the Middle and Inner regions, to reach the center of the board, where you come into posession of a magical crown which allows you to kill off everyone else rather quickly (if you've got just a bit of luck on your side). It's not just a matter of marching straight into the inner region though - First, you need to build up your character, by improving your Strength and Craft stats, maybe getting a few extra Lives too, and gather Objects and Followers to help you. Quite often, it becomes a matter of judging when you're strong enough to risk going to the inner circle - if you do it to early, you might easily be killed off, if you leave it too late, one of your opponents might beat you to it. Oh and just like city centre parking you'll want to avoid being toad....

I'll just get down to it. I wanted to start a blog on the forum to discuss roleplaying game and maybe some boardgames. I enjoy war games too but there are other tabletopnorth members who can speak more authoritively about tabletop wargames than I can. Roleplaying game are my passion though and I should talk about what fires me up.

Welcome to Arkham – City of Dreams – Twinned with the picturesque sea port of Innsmouth
Now I’ve played many war games over my gaming life, mostly games workshop ones (40k, fantasy, Bloodbowl, Mordheim, Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Adeptus Titanicus, space crusade etc... the list goes on) as well as many non GW games like Battletech... but one thing always sticks in the back of my mind when I’m playing and if I win... was it luck or skill. Some of my plays in Bloodbowl for example my opponents can tell you are pure dumb chance. Not all of it, mind you, but a fair percentage. In fact, I think the majority of these games take skill and tactics, but a lot of it also comes down to how the dice roll. And I don't think that just because I have been beaten a few times in the past. If anything I analyse these losses and try to make sure I know what the outcomes can be if it happens again. I never minded losing a game because I made mistakes or my opponent out-played me. It's those times were I lost because either my dice rolls were nothing but 1's or my opponent kept rolling 6's that really irked me and those times were I won because I kept rolling the 6's or my opponent kept rolling the 1's irked me, too.
